Keeping track of and organizing our research materials can be overwhelming. Genealogists use a wide variety of sources and reference tools to discover and dig deeper into our family history: historical records, books and periodicals, photos, maps, videos, articles and web pages, reports, databases, digital archives, etc. Zotero is a free research and citation management system heavily used in academia, but it can also be extremely valuable for genealogists whether for their family history research, or for professional publishing and presentations. It is available for both Mac and PC users. Zotero can integrate well with your existing research workflow and organization tools such Dropbox, Google Drive, and Evernote. What it excels at is letting you apply the same source item and notes to multiple people, families, and projects without having to duplicate those in multiple folders or notebooks.

Just found this while checking to see what all I’d missed (2020 & 2021 were a challenge just getting through!). I’ve got a bunch bookmarked, but I got curious about Zotero, and ended up watching the whole thing instead of wrapping Xmas presents! Dynamic presentation. I liked getting an overview like this showing the potential of the entire program. I’ve used a combination of Evernote and local image and document files for years for my research, but it feels a little scattered. Excited by the potential of Zotero to connect things the way I’d like. Got it downloaded and after the holidays, I’ll be checking it out. Especially appealing is being able to add web info on the fly.

Excellent webinar! This is one that I will want & need to hear over & over—& will enjoy doing so!
This was a very informative presentation and syllabus, however with so much detail, it was impossible to fully grasp it all at once. I will have to re-watch the webinar in segments in order to understand and apply what was taught. I suggest you have Colleen develop a Zotero series for inclusion in Tech Zone.
I agree with Graham. A TechZone Zotero series would be perfect. I am a very good typist and an almost very good family researcher. But technical items such as new programs and such, leave me in the dark. I too will be going back again and again to her webinar. And, again, a TechZone Zotero series would be absolutely perfect. To Geoff: hint hint hint.

This was one of the better webinars. Very informative. I had somewhat used Zotero before, but this gave me better perspective on using the program and getting the most out of it.
