About this webinar

Pasted front and center on page 1 of my great-grandmother’s scrapbook was an illustration of a strikingly beautiful woman in an ostrich-plumed hat. Who was she and why was she there? No name, no date, no newspaper. Tiny bits of the page not glued down enabled me to discover clues to the paper’s likely date and possible location and allowed me to discover the identity of my mystery woman. This case study illustrates what to do with an unknown, undated clipping and how to determine its origins.

Excellent presentation. I have had similar scrapbooks with newspaper clippings to search for, and after years of searching and finally the newspaper was digitised on the Trove website in Australia. The methods Mary used to track the item were really thorough. Thank you for walking us through your process.

Good advice on newspaper research and more. Fascinating story. Inspires me to research clippings in my gram’s scrapbook of clippings — pasted in an old textbook!

Absolutely wonderful ! I loved the suggestions for trying to lift a glued down newspaper clipping, I’m going to try that one.
