Jen Shaffer is a full-time professional genealogist and the co-owner of The Formidable Genealogist, specializing in client family research and DNA cases of unknown parentage. She holds a B.A. in Russian Language, a B.A. in Russian Area Studies and a certificate from Novgorod State University in Velikii Novgorod, Russia.
Jen’s love of family history can be pinpointed to one day in the 1980s when her 85 year old grandfather had 10 year old Jen spend the day writing on the backs of all of his family photos from the 1860s forward.
Jen is passionate about short form genealogy education. There are countless genealogy enthusiasts who are eager to learn, but do not have the time to devote to longer webinars. She started a TikTok channel to answer genealogy questions and teach about resources and skills.
Jen is also the Booth Coordinator for the Association of Professional Genealogists and loves helping others to discover APG.
