Changes in Britain post the 1776 War of Independence, along with Capt James Cook’s mapping of New Zealand (1769) and New South Wales (1770), led to convicts and marines being sent to Botany Bay in 1787. So began British migration to the Southern Seas. Factors driving various waves of migration (economic, political, family ties, adventure) will be discussed, along with the effects the British Diasporas had on the Aboriginal and Māori Communities and their environment. Tips on tracing those missing down-under branches of your tree will also be covered.

Michelle always has a great presentation
Well worth watching. Thank you.
Michelle, thank you for this very informative and detailed presentation. Although I don’t yet know of any of my family lines associated with Australia and New Zealand, this presentation will serve me well as a research starting point should I subsequently discover same.
There was quite a lot of information that was encouraging and inspiring, making me want to keep going with the research of family. Michelle is a clear concise speaker adding to the pleasure of the Webinar.
Michelle is a wonderful speaker and always comes up with interesting facts and places to look. I never think to look in New Zealand, but I will now. Fantastic syllabus, as well.
Good information. I have connected with my Australian cousins (Brisbane) and New Zealand cousins (Wellington) and now know where to search for all the OTHER English cousins who have disappeared from English records…
Michelle’s always easy to listen to. And she knows our part of the world so well.
Thank you Michelle. Your Webinar was full of information…
