About this webinar

The records we use are filled with “trivia,” bits and pieces of information that seem to have no “genealogical” value—at least not until we become more innovative in our research and analysis. Each piece of trivia in every document is an opportunity waiting to be connected to something else. Our ability to resolve problems depends upon our ability to make those connections. This class explores eighteen types of records and the kind of hidden clues each offers to help us resolve problems of identity, kinship, and origin.

*** This class requires an active webinar membership to attend. ***

This webinar was every bit as awesome as the rest of the year with ESM has been. And what a wonderful genealogical Christmas present- another whole year! Thank you Elizabeth and also Geoff for arranging these. I haven’t been able to attend live due to very old tech, but I was wondering whether Elizabeth has any more examples of using all these techniques and strategies outside of US? E.g. maybe finding ancestors of immigrants from Ireland 🤞 Obviously the techniques apply regardless of specifics, but when you are less experienced and your creativity needs a lot of practice, seeing examples really helps too (as Elizabeth knows given her webinars are full of examples!) Guess I need to see if ESM has immigrant ancestor research published in NGQ! Thank you again both for a brilliant year of learning.

I have learned so much from this series of webinars! I have been able to go back to areas I previously thought I had exhausted my research and found additional clues and evidence. Please continue sharing your amazing wisdom with us in the coming New Year!

This webinar was so awesome! It’s such an opportunity to learn from one of the genealogy GOATs. Just when you think you’ve grasped the concept of “reasonably exhaustive research”, ESM comes along and shows you how to take this concept to an entirely new and creative level! I learned so many skills to help me bust through those brick walls that I thought could not possibly come down. Watch this webinar for better research methodology, whatever your genealogy research experience level is.

This series has been highly encouraging. As someone with ancestors with a notorious common name, Elizabeth’s demonstrations of how indirect evidence can answer your questions have given me the courage to keep moving, analyze, and think outside the box. Thank you, Elizabeth, for sharing your knowledge and methodology to help us succeed with our research. And, last but not least, Geoff, thank you for providing these opportunities to learn from the best.
