About this webinar

The impact of the Civil War was keenly felt by many living from DE to TX. The Freedmen's Bureau Records are full of pertinent records; not just the records of freed slaves. While records of freedmen are found, a lot information about ALL impoverished southerners is also found. If a family tree contains confederate soldiers who were wounded or killed in action, their surviving parents, spouses or  children might be found in these documents as they requested or received rations, were declared destitute, etc. If your ancestors were freed, they might also be found receiving rations, or being a party to a contract.

A great look at records which have I have found, bud I did not know always understand and know how to use. Thank you so very much. Great job!!!!

A lot of information to process. Don’t need it now, but may in the future.

A very eye opening topic…..I had no idea there was such an array of categories that offered yet another source to research the lives of my white ancestors from the South.

    A wealth of information

Absolutely fascinating! Thanks so much, Diane. I had no idea there was so much to learn about the Freedmen’s Bureau, and I’m a Southerner. Please, Jeff, more webinars for the Southern genealogist.

AWESOME webinar!!! Diane was one of my first genealogy teachers a few years ago at NCSU OLLI! Diane is always very, very thorough, very interesting, and wants to share everything very quickly with her students. As always, Diane’s support material, her web site, slides, etc. are of excellent quality. She makes her presentations so easy to learn from. Her syllabus for each class makes extensive notetaking unnecessary. I am so glad she presented Freedmen Records today – an area overlooked for research! Thx

Brilliant webinar which will help find some of my missing records for distant family members.

Diane has a wealth of knowledge. We need her back!

Discovered more detailed tips for NARA searches. Learned a lot. Thanks Diane!

    Excellence presentation !

    Excellent

    Excellent as usual

Excellent information about a collection I knew very little about!

    Excellent overview!

Excellent presentation and handout! Thanks . . .

    Excellent presentation

    Excellent session!!

Fabulous presentation. Learned so much that didn’t know about these records.

    good info

    Great Information

Great topic. Super informative. Wonderful presenter.

    GReat!

Had no clue there was such a variety of information available under the Freedman’s Bureau!! Great webinar!!

Having known next to nothing about the subject matter, I was very interested in attending this webinar. I learned a lot, but I’m happy I have a webinar subscription because I really have to watch it again.

I appreciated hearing about the types of records available!

I had no idea what information the Freedmen’s Bureau records included. Great webinar!

I LIKED it. Nicely coherent and comprehensive, and easy to understand. Thank you.

I really enjoyed the webinar, even though I have no southern ancestors–as yet! I’m interested in anything about the Civil War and its aftermath.

I was actually listening at work and I missed part of of the webinar but the part that I did catch it was very informative. My ancestors were from Anson County North Carolina and I am currently traveling back and forth from Pennsylvania to find as much information as I can on them directly and via the internet but again the information I heard today was very informative and I will be using that to help me along my journey

Interesting how they encompass so much that you would not consider.

Lucky to have turned in on Friday the 13th. Veyr comprehensive explanation of Freedmen Bureau.

More and More places to search for information you can’t find. Wonderful! Who’d thunk it?

More information here than I had thought there would be.

Presenting in a webinar can be challenging because there isn’t audience feedback to gauge how well your remarks are going. Diane was outstanding. Her passion for the topic certainly came through. I’ll be recommending this webinar to my “genie” friends.

Quite interesting with lots of examples of the type of details you can find. Thank you for sharing this with us!

    Rich content and good examples

Such a good seminar and she is good speaker that holds the listener’s interest.

    Terrific webinar!

Thanks for such a thorough detailed talk. This adds new avenues for me to pursue with my Southern kinfolk!

    thanks for the info.!

There was a LOT of information in this webinar! Thank You.

This is one of the MOST useful webinars I’ve ever attended. I ASSUMED (incorrectly) that it wouldn’t apply to my own research. WRONG!!! I didn’t know so many people are included, or how many different record sets there are. My BIGGEST surprise? The hospital records of a NY Regiment!! Who knew? I may still find my man!! Thank you, Diane. Your handout is incredible.

This provided me with the clarity I needed regarding these records. Will view again as I was multitasking here at work and I want to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

This was amazing! I’d sure like to have the hands on session in my state!

    very good

Very good; she covered the topic well.

    Very Informative

very informed on her topic and great syllabus.

Very interesting new to me resource.

    Very interesting. Thanks

Wonderful presentation and stimulating! One of my favorites through all the years. Thanks!!!!
