More and more genealogy apps and websites, like MyHeritage, 23andMe, and Ancestry, are moving to Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to prevent account hacking and secure user privacy. Some sites like 23andMe and MyHeritage utilize the Google Authenticator App in order to manage your 2FA account and generate the 6-digit code to gain access to your account. So every time no matter how many times a day one logs in, it is necessary to use 2 factor security logins? And no matter how many different devices I use? If I use an ipad and an imac to facilitate screen comparisons, this will be necessary for both devices?
Mary it depends upon the site. Most sites have a check box that can be marked BEFORE you confirm the code – it usually says “Remember me” – basically it drops a cookie on your machine so that the next time you access the site you shouldn’t have to enter the a new code.
