Your message: I have a dilemma, “Which Wilhelmina” ?
Can I use my mtDNA (Haplogroup X) and/or my autosomal to prove which of 3 or 4 Wilhelmina, born BERG, is MINE?

I have German birth records (Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany) from these Wilhelmina’s – all agreeing with or close to birth and christening dates I have. All are daughters of 1 of 2 August BERG and 1 of 2 possible wives – JENSEN or ACKERMAN). Wilhelmina’s death, in Athens, Greene, New York, and other American records say only Wilhelmina (BERG) DERNEHL/DERNELL.

I have access to autosomal DNA results from 2 female 1st cousins – daughters of the 2 sisters of my mother. [We would all share the same mtDNA as we descend from the same 2nd great grandmother DERNEHL and 1st great grandmother LANG and grandmother CURTIS.] Their only brother had no (legal/known) children, so no Y-DNA. Their paternal line CURTIS has daughtered out.

Could the DNA results I have, assist me? Are there other relatives I need to test, etc.?

Always worth hearing what Diahan has to say–just in case! I just wish I had more living family to test so I could put her information to work for me!
