Genealogy Standards 38 and 58 strongly express a preference for using original sources. Diligent researching and a few tricks of the trade enable genealogists to find original sources that underlie authored narratives and derivative sources.

Brilliant webinar with some great tip on how to continually move forward when researching early ancestors.
Excellent presentation! Even though I consider myself a “seasoned” researcher and have done archival work for many years, the case studies were very informative.
Excellent. I appreciate how slowly and carefully he presents. Very understandable. Loved the examples he used. It gives me hope of the possibilities of peeling back to the original sources of authored works that I have used in documenting my early American lines. Thank you.
Valuable advice on tracing back to the original source. Things I didn’t know explained clearly. At age 90 I am unable to research in person, but am hopeful I can find some on line to clear the way to originals.
I knew about “peeling the onion” and working one’s way back to the original record – in theory. It’s extremely helpful to follow someone’s steps through this process. His example of going to the laws of the time for context is extremely helpful for those who are unfamiliar with the importance of context.
Most excellent webinar and syllabus!
I love these webinars. Always something new to learn and put into practice. Very practical and helpful.
Such an important topic, and good examples digging back to original sources that are not obvious.
