I have found two ancestors who were indentured servants. One came into Virginia and listed to whom he was servant to. I am going to go back and look for more Virginia documents bout him and the person he was indentured to. There is lore that other ancestors came to Virginia with a person who settled them in Virginia. No mention of servitude. This is a place to look first. Another ancestor came but was alone and about a child of 13. I think the court indentured him here. I need to re check on him also.
This topic was very interesting. I am not sure if I have any indentured people in my tree, but it is something to look out for as my research progresses.
Wish I had known more about indentured servants 20+ years ago. I think many of my ancestors must have come to the colonies in this manner. I’m looking forward to looking in the references that Craig provided to us. Always a great speaker!
