Did you know that real research of your Nordic ancestors can be done on your home computer? Record digitization hosted on MyHeritage.com for Denmark, Norway and Sweden puts images of the church records at your finger tips. See how this new access can reshape your genealogical habits.
Exploring Scandinavian genealogy opens a fascinating gateway to tracing ancestors in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, as well as adjacent Nordic regions like Finland and Iceland. Because state churches historically served as the primary government registrars in these countries, parish church records act as official vital records—offering an abundance of details on births, marriages, and burials. For modern researchers, navigating these historical documents involves understanding key contextual shifts, such as transitions in handwriting styles and historical adjustments to calendar systems. Platforms like MyHeritage have revolutionized access to these resources by hosting expansive databases, indexed records, and direct digitizations, making deep family history research far more accessible.
To gain a comprehensive understanding of navigating Scandinavian church records, reading historical Gothic handwriting, and applying feast day calendars to your research, viewing the complete webinar is highly recommended. To further accelerate your progress, explore the detailed reference links and curated guides provided in the webinar syllabus to help uncover your family's unique story.

After I discovered FamilySearch's RootsTech in 2022, Jenny Hansen became one of my first guides to Swedish genealogy! Since then, I've discovered some Danish connections, as well, so I continue to learn new resources and techniques from her, as in today's webinar. Thanks, Jenny and Legacy Family Tree!
Very good! I have done loads of research in Norway and a bit in Sweden. Jenny gave very good information to all of us no matter our experience. She is correct a lot was left up to the pastor of the church. My GGGfather died young, and I would love to know what caused his death, but nothing was written down, so we'll never know.
Excellent overview of the various types of Scandinavian church records.
I learned so much more than I expected in this comprehensive presentation of how to research Scandinavian ancestors. I can't wait to dive deeper into the records of my Danish ancestry. This is one I will certainly watch again. The portions regarding reading script and connected resources were very helpful.
It was very informative as I have only just started searching my Swedish family history. I now have a better understanding of the Household Indexes. It was also great to learn more about how to navigate the My Heritage site.
I really liked that the presenter showed actual examples and translated the various columns and their contents. I've used several of these, especially Swedish Household records, but the others are more unfamiliar to me. Also, in the Household records, I've found health information, such as a grandfather that had smallpox and survived.
The webinar was very comprehensive. I liked that it covered the three countries. It also gave me a chance to see how My Heritage works.
I love Jenny's webinars. She is clear, informative . Looking forward to her next one.
