Many couples chose to marry in a location away from their home. Often there were reasons why it was a more convenient location to tie the knot. Sometimes, this decision was based on a romantic location or a place that would allow them to marry quickly without a three-day waiting period. These locations are often referred to as Gretna Green, the historic town in Scotland where thousands of English couples ran because of Scotland’s sympathetic marriage laws. We will consider the reason for a different marriage location, alternate sources to determine the location, and a few of the towns known as "Gretna Greens" in the United States.

I really like how Mark does his presentations. He is very through with explanations that I can understand.
I thought it was going to be about Greta Green in Scotland. However, the methodology is useful for other localities. This webinar would be especially helpful for people doing American research.

Interesting. lots of food for thought.
It is always a pleasure to listen to Mark.
It was good, but it seemed to move a little bit slowly.
It was very informative. I had heard the term Gretna Greenbefore but had no idea what it referred to.
It wasn’t what I was expecting– I thought Gretna Green was a woman’s name about whom there was going to be a case study– but I have encountered the phenomenon often of couples marrying away from their home communities while doing research.
I’ve been trying to figure out Gretna Greens in the US for a while. The strategies discussed and references are VERY helpful.
