The majority of ancestral Scandinavians shared a small number of given names and surnames. Following ancestors without becoming mixed up in the patronymic pot can be a challenge. This webinar will provide guidance for focusing on your ancestor and eliminating other possible family lines. We will answer the most common questions regarding ancestral patronymics: what are they? why are they used? and how do I follow my family and not the neighbors?

Very good webinar, with clear instructions for researching Scandinavian ancestors, using patronymics. I can now go back further in time on my Danish and Schleswig-Holstein families.
Jenny’s presentation was so easy to follow. Great information and although the area I’m researching was not covered, it gives me hope that I will be able to go further with my research with this new understanding of patronymic names.
Very clear coverage of the Scandanavian crazy naming patterns.
I enjoyed today’s seminar. I teach Swedish genealogy to members of the Vasa Order of America by Zoom. I speak Swedish so reading the Church records are letter difficult no word and meaning difficult. It gave me some different ways to explain certain items than I usually use. What I say may not be understood by someone who is just beginning genealogy not taking this class to supplement their knowledge of family history.
Perfect timing, I have been working on my husband’s Norwegian ancestry. This answered many questions and gave great suggestions to help me.
Jenny made everything so clear. I came to the seminar thinking that this was a branch of my family tree that I would have to leave unexplored because it seemed so daunting, and I’ve come away feeling it is definitely possible to investigate it after all. Thank you! Plenty of pertinent information and no overwhelm at all. The examples given helped clarify the theory of how to approach the research.
Brilliant webinar which needs a further viewing to gain the most from all of the information presented and the research techniques used in finding early ancestors.
Excellent presentation
