About this webinar

Through examples the problems with not conducting an exhaustive search will be highlighted. Assumptions, misinterpretations, and not digging deep enough into original records will all be showcased as to how they can mislead research, sometimes for years. Encouraging the audience to follow the principles of a reasonably exhaustive search should give them incentive to make it a part of their usual research habits. They will also learn particular pitfalls to watch for.

    Down to earth and helpful

Easy to understand with extremely useful information with very good visual examples.

Elissa brought up several very good examples of how a document may or may not contain accurate information. I will be much more careful about shallow research from now on.

Elissa is great! Wonderful examples and very inspriational.

Enjoyable and informative. Thanks for providing an opportunity to listen!

Enjoyed the many ways to get untracked and have to recover. Thank you.

Enjoyed this webinar and realize I have not done the research verification I need to be doing. Thanks

Excellent for those just starting out; a great refresher for experienced researchers. Thanks for ALL the wonderful ooportunities to learn throughout the year. I love my Legacy webinars. Best Wishes to all for a wonderful 2018!

    Excellent information well presented!

Excellent review, well presented, and the examples were so helpful! Elissa is very clear and helped me understand some of the specific issues which could pop up in searching/research. Cheers, and Happy New Year to everyone at Legacy/MyHeritage.

    Excellent speaker – great examples.

Excellent! I guess I am probably looking at a do-over also.

Extremely interesting. It helped me where I really didn’t know I needed help — but it answered some questions I had.

Fantastic webinar with lots to follow up.

Further emphasis to “be cautious”. Thanks

Good examples of what happens if you go by just one record.

    Good examples. Good speaker.

good topic. Practical examples are good to bring home the point.

Great ending webinar for 2017! Happy New Year to all at legacy webinars!

Great ideas and reminders for tracing our families!

Great way to end the year! Look with new eyes and not Rose Colored Glasses.

Great, lots of hints I have not heard before. Thanks

I found her talk full of good direction. Thank you for continuing these great services! Happy New Year!

I loved hearing about the poorly transcribed will and how folks assumed that Daughter was daughters or a son name DuBois. How all of a sudden dubois was Mary’s maiden name, etc! A terrific example of why one should look for the original records!

Interesting subject for those of us still calling ourselves newbies

I’ve done genealogy over 30 years, and I still learn something new every webinar. Thanks!

Lots of excellent reminders about quality and quantity of sources!

Love the attitude. happy Tombstone searching.

Makes one want to doublecheck what’s already done!!

    Outstanding presentation and graphics!

Such good reminders not to take anything at face value! Really enjoyed it.

Super helpful! Wonderful and relatable stories. Please invite her back for more!!!

Thank you for opening my eyes about “proof”

The time flew by; great reminders & very interesting examples too. Thanks!

This was an excellent webinar. Elissa Powell is a wonderful presenter. I have been doing genealogy for 25 years, but she emphasizes some very important points that new genealogists should pay attention to. I have not (yet) seen the term “son-by-law,” so that was a new term for me to watch for as I go forward in my searches. I always learn new things from the Legacy webinars. Wonderful resources for those of us who cannot attend conferences and institutes. Thanks so much.

This webinar was perfect for a fuzzy holiday brain! Elissa’s syllabus was easily followed as I listened to her presentation and watched her slides and the content was presented in such a down-to-earth way, with examples, that I feel refreshed rather than worn out from a presentation!

Very informative and engaging speaker. Thank you!!
