About this webinar

Over the last 8 years, Backblaze has collected, analyzed, and reported on hard drive and SSD failure. Andy Klein has waded through 166 million records to learn all he can about drive failure and he'd like to share that with you. For example, do different drive models fail at different rates, do bigger drives fail more often, does temperature impact drive failure, and maybe most important - can you predict drive failure. We’ll also compare consumer versus enterprise drives and wrap up by comparing hard drives to SSDs. Join us for a class of what you can really learn from failure – drive failure that is.

A long time ago I was told their are two kinds of data storage, "... those that have failed, and those that are yet to fail..." KEEP MULTIPLE BACKUPS, and make sure that you still have the technology to read them. And check that the backup(s) actually work.

Very informative and useful. My only critique would be an oversight in the syllabus - would you please add the URL's mentioned in the presentation ie: Backblaze and the test results, so one doesn't have to re-watch the webinar to find them. Please?

I've used Backblaze for my cloud -based backups for over 5 years now, based on a recommendation from my professional tech friend. Absolutely wonderful. And when I have questions, they answer them so I can understand!! Highly recommended. And I think I've got a hard drive that might need replacing soon... :)

As for the 24 Hour Marathon 2022 it has been absolutely amazing! So, much fantastic information, talented presenters, with great knowledge & passion about genealogy. It has been worth all the caffeinated beverages, toothpicks holding my eyes open, no sleep, etc. . . . the only thing that I didn't like (and I understand things happen where it might be difficult for people to present in person), was when the presentation was pre-recorded, because you couldn't ask questions and some of that time was in the middle of the night, wee hours of the morning. Is there no way with ToGo to save the chat/questions besides copy & paste? Can that be improved? Anyway, it is not quite over, but it has been Amazing! Thank you ALL, speakers, hosts, everyone at Legacy Family Tree & MyHeritage for all you do to advance genealogy, hear & implement our ideas.

Thank you, Andy! You provided a wealth of information, and while I can't claim I understood it all, I did appreciate getting some direction & understanding of how things work.

I wish my husband was here while I watched this webinar. We both have fairly old computers, and we know things can happen to them. I will give him the syllabus when he gets home! Thank you!
