The Victorians – God bless them! – took the responsibility for recording Births, Marriages and Deaths away from the Churches and made it a State responsibility. The result is a wonderful resource, fully accessible at ScotlandsPeople – although there are some restrictions on seeing more recent documents online for reasons of Privacy…but there are ways around that!)
